Who I am and what I do

After flirting with being a lettings agent and hating it, encouraged and supported by my then wife, I trained as a drama teacher (with actorly pretensions) far too many years ago. Did my masters at Lancashire University.  Captured by a Viking Shield Maiden I moved to Denmark in 1997, where I involved myself in gardening, being a general handyman building a nursery, and writing about vegetable growing for Haven magazine. (That's a link to the magazine, not my articles which may not be saved in digital form). They were published in 2006. That's almost a thousand years ago...

I try to make prints and other artworks.

I started making prints nearly twenty years ago and developed my techniques under the tutelage of Julia Farrer at Holbæk Kunsthøjskole.  My work has been commended as original and curious, humorous and dark. I make etchings and monotypes as well as leporello, pop-ups and structures from card and paper as seen at the Limfjordens Censuret Udstilling and elsewhere.

Prints evolve from small sketches in my workbooks. Some of the work books contain pop-ups. Paper and card structures further develop themes and and ideas in the books. These give expression to the curious world that inhabits my old head. My love of theatre often informs the finished works.

Recently I've been trying to find out how colour works, with various degrees of failure...

What's my work about? Me, I suspect.

I used to put a cv on this page. But maybe it's a bit much and it read like a bit of a smug man showing off.  Suffice to say I've been an auctioneer, teacher, general factotem and, lately, a sort of artist and have enjoyed those experiences and, I hope, brought some joy and wonderment here and there.
